A FRAGMENT OF MOSAIC OF A SYNAGOGUE - THE FIRST AND ONLY ATTESTED ANCIENT SYNAGOGUE IN BULGARIAN LANDS

For the first time Regional Archaeological Museum– Plovdiv presents a fragment of mosaic, depicting one of the ancient Jewish symbols –menorah, with text to it of the prayer hall of the ancient synagogue of the ancient Philippopolis.

According the archaeological data, the synagogue is the first and only archaeological attested ancient synagogue in the Bulgarian lands. 

It has built in the end of III century, in the central part of the town.
